Abstract

Growing up on the west coast of Canada, I was always drawn to the landscape. Being surrounded by both mountains and the ocean shaped my perspective, offering endless opportunities to develop an eye for these environments—their ever-changing light, textures, and moods. That early connection to nature sparked a deep appreciation for the world’s diverse landscapes, a passion that has only deepened as I’ve travelled and lived in different parts of the world.

In British Columbia, the dramatic contrast between the rugged coastline and towering peaks taught me to see beauty in both vast, sweeping vistas and intimate, quiet details. In the UK, I found inspiration in the rolling hills, ancient forests, and windswept coastlines, where history and nature intertwine in a unique way. The UAE introduced me to the stark beauty of the desert, where shifting dunes and endless skies create a minimalist yet powerful landscape, changing constantly with the light.

China’s vast and varied terrain—from the karst mountains of Guilin to the towering peaks of the Tibetan Plateau—challenged me to capture both the scale and intricate details of its diverse landscapes. Multiple opportunities to travel through much of Southeast Asia immersed me in lush jungles, rice terraces, and vibrant tropical beaches, where humidity and dramatic weather patterns add layers of complexity to every scene.

Most recently, living and travelling in Africa has provided an entirely new perspective. Ethiopia, in particular, has been a revelation—its dramatic highlands, vast plateaus, and deep rift valleys present an incredible range of landscapes unlike anywhere else I have experienced. From the striking escarpments of the Simien Mountains to the surreal geological wonders of the Danakil Depression, the country’s terrain is both challenging and endlessly rewarding to photograph.

With every new place I explore, I strive to do justice to its landscapes through my photography, seeking to convey not just the visual impact, but the emotions and stories woven into the land itself. Whether revisiting familiar locations with fresh eyes or discovering new environments for the first time, I am constantly driven to explore, learn, and capture the ever-evolving beauty of the world around me.
